Welcome to my blog. A blog is a publicly viewable "WebLog" = blog. I think this can be a useful tool for any teacher. You can instantly post any thoughts you want. Or you can post links to web sites. Or you can post assignments to students. You can even take existing documents and copy/paste them into your blog.
But that's not all. You can create many blogs in your account. You can allow multiple users to contribute to any blog. Imagine the possibilities for group work via the web using a blog! Students can research topics and simultaneously contribute to the group's blog.
Finally, blogs are a neglected source of research. There are some very popular and important blogs. For example, checkout this one by a person in Iraq right now - it may load slowly because it is getting many hits at this time! ---> http://dearraed.blogspot.com/ (If that doesn't link, you can copy/paste it into your browser's address bar, or just go to www.blogger.com and look for the first "blog of note" on the left side menu.)
You can search blogs at some uniquely powerful search engines that do not simply behave like google or yahoo. Of timely relevance, many overseas news reporters - professional, syndicated, and amateurs - as well as individuals like soldiers around the world, post to blogs daily. Checkout the following search engines:

http://blogdex.media.mit.edu/
http://www.syndic8.com/
This is an awesome resource for creative teachers - and it is FREE! Did you hear that? FREE FREE FREE~! Did you ever meet a teacher who would pass up something that is free?....
Next I am going to create a group blog for the people in my inservice class to contribute to just to show how easy this is!
