The Tooth Fairy Didn't Show Up

Lessons in real life can be hard. Or they can be expected. They can break down your belief in magic. My son had such a lesson last night.

My wife was not feeling well. She went to bed early at about 9:30 P.M. My 12-year-old son's tooth had been loose for a couple weeks. He had gone to bed a little after 9:00. He was probably moving the tooth around and it came out. He put the tooth into a tissue, and put it under his pillow without telling anyone. ...and the tooth fairy did not come. He woke up this morning to a that hard, expected, unmagical lesson. And the story was related to me by my 8-year-old daughter, who told me, "The tooth fairy didn't come last night." Lesson learned by her too.

Teeth fall out. Magic falls out. The end of an era. And so it goes.
